Northern Meat Services History

For over four decades, Northern Meat Services has been a proud Canadian family business in Winnipeg. What started in 1984 as a local butcher shop has become a full line food service distribution company.

Today, NMS is guided by the hands-on leadership of Russ Paterson, alongside his sons Ron and Jason. Our team has grown to over 100 employees, all working together to bring you the best in food service.

From our head office at 49 Omands Creek and Food Service Division at 29 Winfield Way in Winnipeg, our modern fleet of 20 trucks ensures reliable delivery 52 weeks a year right here in our city. But our reach extends to rural Manitoba, bringing quality food service solutions to businesses across the province.

Our Story

Back in 1984, we first opened our doors at the corner of Inglewood Street and Bruce Avenue. It was a small neighborhood butcher shop where you could get your fresh meat and deli items. As more and more people started coming to us, we quickly outgrew that location.

So, we moved to a bigger place at 462 Brooklyn Street. Thanks to our amazing customers and dedicated staff, our business kept growing. Before long, we even doubled the size of our Brooklyn Street location! But by 1991, we needed even more space, and that's when we moved to our current locations.

Not long after settling in on Omands Creek, we decided to start offering fresh fruits and vegetables too. To make it easy for our customers, we created Southern Produce, which lets you order your fresh produce directly from us at Northern Meat Services.

To become a one-stop shop for all our customers' needs, we added grocery items to our offerings. This new part of our business helped us grow even more, and in 1999, we opened a new Food Services division & warehouse at 29 Winfield Way.

Since 2007 we have been growing our warehouse space & storage to help get products to our customers faster.
